Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 6 April 2026

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the LAWSAN National Database & Verification System (“NDVS”), operated by the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (“LAWSAN”) through the LAWSAN National Identity Commission (“LANIC”). By accessing or using the platform at id.lawsan.org, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1.Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, submitting a registration, or otherwise using the NDVS platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you (“User”, “you”) and LAWSAN, acting through LANIC.

2.Definitions

  • “NDVS”— the National Database & Verification System, the platform accessible at id.lawsan.org.
  • “LAWSAN”— Law Students’ Association of Nigeria, the national body representing all undergraduate law students across Nigerian universities.
  • “LANIC” — LAWSAN National Identity Commission, the arm of LAWSAN responsible for identity, database, and verification infrastructure.
  • “LIN” — LAWSAN Identification Number, a unique alphanumeric identifier issued to each verified member.
  • “Coordinator” — a LANIC-appointed officer (Zonal Director or Campus Director) responsible for verifying student registrations.
  • “Personal Data” — any information that identifies or could reasonably be used to identify you, as further described in our Privacy Policy.

3.Eligibility

The NDVS is available exclusively to bona fide undergraduate law students at Nigerian universities with a Council of Legal Education (CLE)–accredited law programme. By registering, you represent and warrant that:

  • You are currently enrolled in a Nigerian law faculty.
  • The information you provide is accurate, complete, and not misleading.
  • You are at least 16 years of age.

LANIC reserves the right to deny registration or revoke verification status for any user who does not meet these criteria.

4.Registration & Accounts

To use the NDVS, you must create an account using a valid email address and a secure password. You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.
  • Notifying LANIC immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

Each individual may create only one account. Duplicate or fraudulent registrations may result in permanent suspension from the platform.

5.LAWSAN Identification Number (LIN)

Upon successful verification, you will be issued a LIN. Your LIN is:

  • Permanent — once issued, it is never reassigned, reused, or revoked (except in cases of fraud).
  • Unique — no two members share the same LIN.
  • Verifiable — any party may confirm your membership status using the public verification endpoint.

Your LIN may be used across LAWSAN platforms for conference registration, election eligibility, dues payment, and other official purposes.

6.Verification Process

All registrations are subject to manual review by a LANIC Coordinator. Verification involves comparing your submitted information and documents against your student identity records. LANIC reserves the right to:

  • Approve or reject any registration at its sole discretion.
  • Request additional documentation or clarification.
  • Revoke a previously issued LIN if the registration is later found to be fraudulent or erroneous.

Rejected applicants are encouraged to re-register with corrected information. The rejection reason will be communicated via email.

7.User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information or documents.
  • Impersonate another person or register on behalf of someone else without authorisation.
  • Attempt to access accounts, data, or system areas you are not authorised to access.
  • Interfere with the platform’s operation, including attempting to circumvent security measures, rate limits, or access controls.
  • Scrape, harvest, or bulk-collect data from the platform.
  • Use the platform for any unlawful purpose.

Violation of these rules may result in immediate account suspension, LIN revocation, and referral to the appropriate LAWSAN disciplinary body.

8.Intellectual Property

All content, design, code, trademarks, and other intellectual property on the NDVS platform belong to LAWSAN and/or LANIC. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the platform without prior written consent.

By uploading documents (student ID, passport photograph), you grant LANIC a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display these documents solely for the purpose of identity verification and platform operation.

9.Data Collection & Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. The collection, processing, and protection of your personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms.

By using the NDVS, you consent to the collection and processing of your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy, in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 and the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).

10.Limitation of Liability

The NDVS is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • LAWSAN and LANIC make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the platform’s availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose.
  • LAWSAN and LANIC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform.
  • Total aggregate liability for any claim shall not exceed the fees paid by you to use the platform (currently zero, as the platform is free).

11.Termination & Suspension

LANIC may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for violation of these Terms or for any other reason deemed necessary for the integrity of the platform. Upon termination:

  • Your access to the platform will be revoked.
  • Your LIN may be flagged as inactive (but the record is retained for audit purposes).
  • You may request deletion of your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12.Changes to These Terms

LANIC reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the platform. Your continued use of the NDVS after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13.Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
